A cultural and academic institution at the University of Minnesota — built by students who carry their roots with pride.
The Somali Student Association at the University of Minnesota exists to celebrate our shared heritage, uplift our community, and create a home away from home for every Somali student who walks through our doors. We are more than a club — we are a legacy in progress, rooted in culture and driven by purpose.
Our flagship annual celebration is a full-scale cultural production — featuring theatrical performances, traditional fashion, original music, spoken word, and dance choreography that draws hundreds from across campus and beyond.
The Somali Student Association at the University of Minnesota is an organization built on the belief that heritage and academic excellence are not in conflict — they are complementary. We organize, we celebrate, we support, and we lead.
From cultural events to academic resources, community dinners to large-scale productions, SSA has been a home for Somali students at UMN for over a decade.
Preserving and celebrating Somali culture through art, performance, and community.
Holding ourselves to the highest standard in everything we produce.
Building lasting bonds among Somali students across generations.
Developing the next generation of Somali leaders on campus and beyond.
The people who make it happen — dedicated students shaping SSA's future.
Those who led before us — the foundation of what SSA is today.
Whether you are Somali or simply someone who believes in the power of culture and community — SSA welcomes you.
